This is a light weight finely knitted tam using five colours of Jamieson and Smith 2-ply lace weight in L1, L27, L28, L69(MIX) and L125.

The design was based on a vintage glass button with a nine-pointed star. Because of the size of the star the tam has more stitches than the more usual five to eight pointed star tams. Knitted in 2-ply lace it makes a very comfortable tam which can be worn at any time of the year. In a 3-ply it makes a larger than usual tam which would be suitable for a man, but you will need to choose a springy rather than a drapey yarn for it to keep its shape. In a heavier fingering weight yarn you will have a beautiful wall decoration.

The original tam was knitted in homespun and dyed with natural dyes. The Jamieson and Smith colours give a very close match to the original version of the tam which was made with wool from my flock of sheep.
