Just in time for Taurus season, I’m thrilled to announce the release of my latest birthday shawl pattern! Whether you’re a fellow Taurus or looking for a special gift for someone born under this sign, this cozy and stylish shawl is perfect for celebrating birthdays in style. ♉️ Whatever your Star Sign, I hope you’re inspired by this shawl!

Star Sign Sampler : An asymmetrical triangle shawl knit on the bias using a combination of a beautiful two-color brioche texture stitch that resembles the Taurus symbol, two-color brioche rib and wavy lace. This shawl can be your Star Sign Sampler too!

When Hue Loco released their Star Sign Collection, I KNEW I had to design myself a very special birthday shawl!! Of course I used the Taurus colorway and the mini collection for my sample (my birthday is April 30th), but you could make this your very own birthday shawl as well by using YOUR Star Sign colors!

Yarn Notes:
Grab two full skeins of fingering weight yarn, plus 5 mini skeins for this super fun sampler shawl! For the full size skeins, I used almost all of my yarn (I did have a bit left over), so make sure you check the yardage / meterage. I chose semi-solid colors for the mini skeins and my full Contrast Color, and variegated for my Main Color. Brioche is a fantastic way to showcase one-of-a-kind skeins of artisan dyed yarns! This shawl pattern will work with ANY of the Star Sign collection dyed by Hue Loco! I used the Taurus colorway for my MC and chose a beautiful complimentary semi-solid for my CC. Then used the 5 solids out of the mini set in a fade / gradient!

See the last photos here of the yarn I used for my sample in skein and cake form!

Skill level:
Beginner brioche - Intermediate. Basic brioche skills are not required, but recommended. The Brioche Texture is created using simple brioche knitting techniques. Keep in mind that it is knit flat with brioche increases and decreases.

Techniques used:
knit, purl, knit increases and decreases, yarn-over, brioche knit (brk), brioche purl (brp), sl1yo, brioche 4-stitch increase and 2-stitch decrease, side to side asymmetrical triangle shawl shaping on the bias.

Construction Notes:
This asymmetrical triangle is one of my absolute favorite shawl shapes, both to knit and wear! It is begun with very few stitches and then 4 stitches are increased at the right edge and 2 stitches decreased at the left edge every 4 Main Side rows to create a beautiful elongated shape. The first section is a Two-Color Brioche Texture or Tuck stitch, developed by Nancy Marchant in her Tuck Stitches book. Do not be deceived or scared away by this stitch pattern! It is simply utilizing traditional two-color brioche techniques in a different way to create this delicate texture (that really resembles bull heads if you look closely). After working this Brioche Texture stitch, you will bring in your first mini skein for a fun wavy lace stripe! Then, of course, I had to use Two-Color Brioche Rib. You will alternate between the Texture, Lace and Two-Color Brioche until you reach the Border, which shifts between Texture and Two-Color Brioche, so that you can see the variations of color combinations.

This shawl shape is my favorite! I love wearing mine wrapped around my neck kerchief-style, with the bottom of the triangle facing down. That gorgeous textural Border will be showcased if you wear it this way!! The wingspan is so long, you could even tie the end in a cute little knot.
