Starfighters are imperative for space travel, but their design inspiration comes from planet Earth. George Lucas, the mastermind behind Star Wars, had model makers look to World War II aircrafts such as TBF torpedo bombers for the Y-wing and small crafts used in aerial dogfighting for the X-wing. Differently colored lasers are a visual shorthand to determine which side the starfighters belong to—the Empire’s TIE fighters fire green lasers, and the Rebel’s X-wings fire red lasers.

This black-and-white unisex starfighter scarf is worked flat back and forth using the double knitting technique, creating a double-thick fabric where one side is the negative image of the other. Red and green laser detailing indicates which side each starfighter is on, whether it’s the X-wing, TIE fighter, A-wing, TIE interceptor, or Y-wing. Let the battle commence!
