The Stash-Buster Duster is meant to be a long, lightweight, flow-y layer for all seasons. Knit from the bottom-up with panel detailing and then joined at the shoulders with a Three-Needle Bind-Off, this garment is a fun way to play with color and fiber while BUSTING THAT STASH.

Needles & Notions:
Size US 13 / 9mm circular needle (cable length will vary depending on size of garment you are knitting)
Stitch markers, cable needle or DPN, stitch holder/scrap yarn, tapestry needle, one extra circular needle in any size for 3-needle BO

Sizing:
XS(S, M, L, XL) (XXL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL)
Bust: 30(34, 38, 42, 46) (50, 54, 58, 62) inches;
76(86, 96.5, 107, 116.75) (127, 137, 147, 157.5) cm
Pick the size closest to your actual bust size! I am pictured here wearing the XS, but wished I had made myself the size S. My bust is 35”.

Gauge: 11 stitches and 15 rows/4” on a US 13, stockinette stitch, knit flat, blocked.

Yarn:
The Stash-Buster Duster uses scraps and stash yarn of all weights and fiber contents by holding them together to create a homogeneous fabric. The duster is knit in Aran weight yarn, but rather than knitting the sweater out of one strand of Aran yarn, we create this weight of fiber by holding thinner weights together. The final fabric is meant to be lightweight and open, so we are using a less bulky yarn weight than a normal garment on US 13 / 9mm needles would.

Possible Combinations:

  • 1 strand of worsted weight with 1 strand of lace weight
  • 3 strands of fingering weight yarn
  • 1 strand of DK weight with one strand of fingering or lace weight yarn
  • 1 strand of DK weight with 2-3 strands of fingering/sock or lace weight
  • 1 strand of Aran weight yarn

Yardage:
Around 1,000 -3,000 yards.
Because this is a stash buster and is made using scraps, I don’t have a definite number for yardage. However, the pattern is created from scraps, stash and random yarns, so you don’t have to worry about dye-lots or buying enough yarn at the yarn shop. You can add random new skeins at any point in the process!

Notes on Pattern/Color
The pattern is written to encourage you, the designer, to play with color and fiber as much or as little as you would like. It does not specifically specify where to change colors throughout the piece, but I have provided some guidance as to how a marled fabric can be achieved.
