'Stegoscarf' spiney 3D sculptural scarf
‘Stegoscarf’ Spine scarf pattern comes with both written and charted directions
This scarf has two distinct looks, depending on how it is folded/worn -it can be the 3 dimensional ‘platelike spines’ or a folded-double zigzags look. Both are unique and eye-catching.
Quick and simple to knit with only a few basic lace stitches. And with only 2 different rows patterns to memorize you won’t need to be eyeballing the chart every row- just relax and knit away on this super chunky and fast scarf- you’ll be done in no time and wanting make another.
Overview: This scarf is knit in two pieces from the bottom up, joined at the center with either grafting(kitchener stitch) or a three needle BO. You can make the scarf as one long piece but the ends will not be matched ( if knit as one piece you will need to sew the final ‘U’ shaped end together into a point too) and the spines will all point in one direction. My final unblocked measurements were 80” total length and 8” across at widest points and 4.5” at the thinnest ‘waist’ points.
Stitches used: K, P, YO, SSK, K2TOG, S2KP (central double decrease)
All stitches/symbols/abbreviations are described in the knitting legend as well as their method of production.
Materials:
2 (114 yd) hanks of Mirasol Ushya (I used rosewood) == 1 hank per scarf half or 228 (+/- )yards
of other super bulky yarn
US Size 17 needles + 1 extra needle if using 3 needle BO to join halves
Row counter
Stitch holder or scrap yarn
tapestry needle
Lots of fun to wear.
I am always available thru ETSY for free pattern support, questions or comments.
