There are few images as evocative as the full moon in a star-filled winter sky above a blanket of white snow. There is something terrifying and yet comforting in the aspect of the moon in a vast expanse of darkness.

The Stella Luna Collection celebrates the phases of the moon and the winter skies with Scandinavian and Baltic inspired knitting techniques that result in head-turning knits to wear and show off – cozy works of art. The Frost Moon Hat comes out for the November Frost Moon and is the fourth pattern in the collection.

This pattern is for a head-turning stranded colour work hat. It is worked cuff up and techniques include: knitting in the round, stranded colour work, and Latvian braid.

The pattern includes: instructions for three sizes; two different formats for the band charts; two variations for the crown charts; and an appendix with notes and tips on techniques used, yarn selection and substitution.

Each hat requires two contrasting yarns that weigh in at 427yd/391m per 115g/4oz

  • Small: 100-120yd/90-110m of the Main Colour and 70-100yd/60-90m of the Contrast Colour
  • Medium: 20-140yd/130-150m of the Main Colour and 80-100yd/ 70-90 meters of the Contrast Colour
  • Large: 150-170y/140-160m of the Main Colour and 100-120y/90-110m of the Contrast Colour

The hats are all 9.5inches/ 23.5cm tall and the circumference is: Small 15 inches/ 38cm around, Medium 20 inches/ 51cm, and Large 22.5 inches/ 57cm with room to stretch the width.

The smallest size will fit an adult with a small head or a child and the largest will fit an adult with a large head.

You can easily increase or decrease gauge or yarn weight to increase or decrease size.

Pay What Works

Inspired by Francoise Danoy of Aroha Knits I will be using a Pay What Works model for my pattern. I encourage you to check out her patterns for more information.

This model is an effort to both respect and value the worth of the work done by the designer and those involved in producing the pattern and to acknowledge that ours is not an inexpensive pursuit and that finances can be a barrier to engagement and participation.

The Ravelry price is the true price of the pattern. To purchase the pattern at a price point that is more accessible to you the coupon codes below can be used at checkout. The prices indicate the price you will pay, not the discount amount. No coupon code is needed for the base price for the pattern (highest price point).
LadyO1 - $5.00
LadyO2 - $6.00
LadyO3 - $8.00
NO CODE - $10.00

Please note for those located in Europe and Australia taxes are added automatically at checkout.
