Additional Notions:

For knit bag: four large buttons (all same size and color); 1 smaller button for closure; 10 g Japanese seed beads in coordinating color(s); sewing needle and thread in contrasting color; one set leather purse handles

These bags were designed to celebrate the Stinson sisters, Katherine and Marjorie, who pursued individual flying careers as well as, with their mother and brother, launched a family business that sold planes and provided flight instruction.

These women wore many hats and were photographed in a number of different social settings. One showed Katherine at a dinner with a lovely purse; it was all the inspiration needed for this bag-loving designer.

The wings motif on the felted bag was taken from the book’s motif, embroidered freeform and embellished with seed beads. Both bags work up quickly; the knit felted bag would be a perfect beginning knitter project.
