This design is the tenth of a series—twelve explorations of different knit-purl stitch patterns throughout 2025. This “Seersucker” stitch pattern is a classic, textured stitch pattern. The pattern document includes general instructions for working the traditional “Seersucker” stitch pattern flat and in the round, as well as specific instructions for a sample square and a toque. The hat pattern features two crown designs so you can choose a swirl that goes around to the left or to the right. You’ll see how you can centre the stitch pattern differently to suit your project. You’ll also find a few designer ideas to help inspire your own designs featuring the “Seersucker” stitch pattern.

The techniques you will need to know, or learn, in order to complete this project are:

  • cast on;
  • knit and purl;
  • slip a stitch, purlwise, with yarn in front of work;
  • k2tog decrease;
  • ssk decrease;
  • working in the round.

I will be donating all of the items from this year’s Stitch Play to a local charity, and encourage all participants to consider knitting for charities, whether based in their own hometown or going to people in need anywhere in the world.
