This dainty cap is an indulgent gift for the newest little star in your life! Worked at a fine gauge with a vintage-inspired lace pattern, it is sure to become a treasured heirloom piece. As it only takes a small amount, you can afford to splurge on a really special yarn- just what that special baby deserves!
Size: newborn to 3 months
Materials: fingering- or lace-weight yarn, about 100 yards (The pale aqua cap is Zealana Luxuria Air laceweight, and the deeper teal hat is Malabrigo Mora)
double-pointed (dpn’s) and 16” circular needles, US size 1, or the size needed to get the correct gauge
optional: 3/8” wide silk ribbon, about 20” long; silk thread and sharp sewing needle
Gauge: 32 sts = 4” in stockinette stitch
Pattern notes: The bonnet is started at the center back on double-pointed needles, and the star pattern is worked in the round. The remainder of the bonnet is worked in rows on the circular needle, finishing with either i-cord ties or a sewn-in ribbon for facing and ties.
