When I carefully and delightedly added this beautiful yarn to my stash, the first word that sprang to my mind was “peacock.” Then it started cycling through other words, like “seaweed,” and “tropical forest.” This neckerchief is a result of all of those words, a mish-mash of ideas brought together in a simple but satisfying knit that’s very quick to make and sumptuous to wear.

Strange Bird is so strange, in fact, that it uses less than 50 grams of fingering weight yarn, and is perfect for that solo 50 gram skein of sock yarn that’s missing its partner. Let’s show it that being single is just as fulfilling. If you’d like to size up or down, try using a different weight of yarn and/or differently sized needles (just remember that you might need more yardage). A pretty broach would be the perfect way to fasten it around your shoulders.

Thank you to my fearless test knitters!
