The ribbing in this design gathers itself into cables and then frees itself again, making a super stretchy headband that hugs heads of all sizes. Quickly knit up in less than half a skein of Malabrigo Rios, this headband will compliment your hair style, keep your ears warm, and become a favorite gift knit!

This pattern is appropriate for knitters who are comfortable working ribbing and cables in the round on a circular needle. Directions are given in both charted and written out form. The pattern consists of two pages and has been test knit and professionally tech edited.

Sizes: One size stretches to fit most adults. Easily adjustable in 2 in/ 5 cm increments by adding or subtracting repeats.

Finished Measurements:
Circumference unstretched: 15 in/ 38 cm. Maximum stretch = just over 24 in/ 61 cm. Total stretch may vary with different yarns.
Height: 3 1/2 in/ 9 cm.

Gauge:
30 st and 23 rnds/ 4 in/ 10 cm over pattern when completely unstretched. Gauge is difficult to measure in pattern, so choose needles that give you a flat stockinette gauge of approximately 23 sts and 33 rnds/ 4 in/ 10 cm.

What You Need

  • Malabrigo Rios (Worsted Weight 100% Superwash Merino Wool; 210 yds/ 192 m per 3.5 oz/100 g skein); half a skein. Headband takes approximately 78 yds/ 71 m. Sample shown in color “Uruguay”.

  • One 16 in/ 40cm circular needle in size required to obtain gauge. I used US #4/ 3.5 mm. You may need a size or two above or below that. (Note that the needle should be smaller than you would usually use with this yarn.)

  • One cable needle

  • One stitch marker

  • Tapestry needle to weave in ends

Pattern Notes:
Headband is worked in the round.
