This classic design uses only knit and purl stitches to create an interesting spiralling effect, with the socks being mirror images of each other. It was originally designed for my husband who doesn’t like his socks too fussy, but it has enough interest to stop you being bored while you make it. It works well with plain, tonal or self-striping yarns.

The pattern is both charted and written and is easily memorised once you’ve started so could easily be knit by a beginner sock knitter.

Sizes Available (approx midfoot measurements)

  • Small – 7.5”/19cm unstretched, 9”/22.75cm stretched
  • Medium – 8”/20.25cm unstretched, 11”/28cm stretched
  • Large – 9”/22.75cm unstretched, 13”/34.25cm stretched

The pattern makes the sock very stretchy, and some testers have suggested that it would be ideal for anyone who needed a sock that would stay up without being too tight or clingy.

All testers managed to use a single skein of yarn, though obviously yardage will vary depending on the size you knit and the length.

Many thanks to my lovely testers bjtmoc, chath, QueenofallKnits, revi-and-noa, Ruatha and thepoch - couldn’t have done it without you!

I’d love it if you’d come to my group to show off your lovely socks, or chat about them while you’re making them. You’d be very welcome!
