The summer cardigan is knitted top down with a subtle slipped stitch detail down the back and along the sides. The pattern includes details on an optional German short row shaping in the back and a cheat I-cord that is knitted as the rows are worked. This gives a nice edge to the cardigan, without having to go back and knit a button band, while still being beginner-friendly.
The summer cardigan is knitted up in 1 strain of kid silk mohair that makes it a light but durable garment that can be lightly held together with a light pin. The pattern is knitted on a needle 4.5mm (US#7) but the size of the needle can be adjusted to fit the gauge. The cardigan can, of course, be knitted in any favorite yarn that fits gauge. Knitted up in a thicker yarn, small buttons can be sewn on and closed through the knitted fabric just behind the cheat I-cord. The pattern includes a slight A-shape detail that can be omitted or be repeated more frequent to give a looser cardigan. Since the cardigan is knitted top down, size adjustments can easily be done throughout the pattern to ensure the right fit.
