Little cotton socks are perfect for summer evenings spent under the stars, yet many otherwise intrepid knitters have never attempted them. This pattern designed for Summer of Socks 2011 provides a low-stress introduction to cotton sock knitting. It is also handsome in wool. Three spiral stitch patterns and five sizes are given. Gauge is less important than fit.

Skills needed: Chart-reading; knitting and purling flat, in the round, and through the back loop; increasing and decreasing; pick up and knit; grafting. The pattern does not use cable or twist stitches.
