A thick haze of cool half-mist half-salt hung over the ocean, obscuring the sun. All the point’s visitors, hunting for a sunny Maine coast Day had retreated at weather’s turn. This is the forgotten coast, she thought to herself on the lone beach. This is the hidden place that exists underneath. In some ways, it was more genuine, with the sharp wet pines rising starkly off rocky cliff islands. Tide drawing out to reveal spans of slippery rockweed. The wet sand was sharply cold under her toes, sending nerves screaming up her legs. It was so delightful to be alive, embracing the different, the hidden. She drew her arms up slowly in the dimming light, fingers poised in a half ballet, half lyrical lift. Skipping, turning, drifting, she moved across the sand, little clumps of it sticking between her toes. She noticed things in the fog that would have been missed in the light. There was a hidden freedom in these unconventional days, and it would not be overlooked.

This sweater is worked from the bottom up, then split and worked flat for sleeve openings. It is then rejoined in the round for shoulder shaping up to neck, where short rows are worked, then bound off. Neckline is then picked up and knit seamlessly in the round.
