This is a pattern for the EXTREME BEGINNER, which only requires knowledge of casting on, binding off, and the knit stitch.

That most basic of knitted shapes - a flat rectangle in garter stitch - becomes a pair of fingerless mitts with two easy seams. The pattern works for a variety of gauges and sizes, and the garter stitch forgives a lot of mistakes.
