If you have ever been to the coast of Maine on a bracingly cold winter day, you will recognize the colors used in this set as exactly the shades seen in surf as it comes crashing inshore—especially onto one of our rare sandy beaches.
Both the mittens and hat include deep, lined hems which keeps the ears and wrists warm and the winds out. This set will help you really enjoy your outings when the mercury drops and the wind howls!

SIZES: One Size—Adult Medium

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS:
Hat: 20-inch circumference, 9-inch length
Mittens: 8-inch circumference, 9-inch length
Changes to gauge or yarn weight, or adding length, may require extra yarn.

GAUGE: 24 sts and 28 rnds = 4”/10cm on gauge size needles (over blocked colorwork pattern).

NEEDLES:
US 4 (3.5mm) or size needed to obtain gauge.
Choose needle types base on your preferred method of working (small circumferences) in the round. Options include magic-loop on a 32-inch circular needle, a combination of a 16-inch circular needle and DPNs, or 2 24-inch circular needles.

YARN: 2 skeins DK/Light Worsted yarn (225 yards/100g skein) in contrasting colors. The set was optimized to use up just about all of 2 shades of this yarn—only 20 yards remained when the set was complete!

NOTIONS: 2 stitch markers, a length of smooth yarn for a holder, tapestry needle, basting pins, several yards smooth worsted yarn for provisional cast-on

SKILLS USED: working in the round, decreases (k2tog, ssk), increases (M1) using a chart, 2-color colorwork, stranding across long gaps, picking up stitches, provisional cast-on
