Beguiling as a part of period costume yet practical for protection from the sun, Susan’s Bonnet is loosely knitted of hemp for comfort in warm weather. Ribbon bow and tie closures frame the face demurely. Fanny Price would surely have felt it worthy of her knitting skills, with the embellishment options a joy in freshening her presentation by trimming with “ribbands.”

NOTES
• This bonnet is worked in two pieces which are sewn together. Wire ribs and a bottom wire frame are added for structure.
• Additional markers may be used between lace pattern repeats to organize work.
• Sewing should be done invisibly using yarn or matching thread that has been conditioned with wax or synthetic conditioner. A wire frame is constructed to fit and sewn inside the facings. This frame is a challenge to construct; be patient!
