These mittens use the traditional tattoo imagery of swallows to make a playful and charming design. They are knit from the bottom up, starting with a Latvian braid at the cuff. The front of the mitten features a wavering pattern and then another Latvian braid, while the back features a continuous flying swallow silhouette boarded by the same wavering pattern which is also found in the afterthought thumb.

While the yarns used in the example mitten are given, most fingering weight sock yarns will work in this pattern.

Finished mittens are 3 ¾ inches across palm and 9 ½ inches long.
