This fabulous bag is such a pleasure to knit. Perfect For the beginner but interesting enough for the more experienced.

Sweet Candy is the ideal size for so many occasions… great for students as it will easily take A4 size notebooks and an iPad, cool as a beach bag…(the close weave will keep out that pesky sand)… and is strong and durable, so makes a marvellous eco shopping tote too. The long, wide strap can be worn across the body or over the shoulder and is comfortable enough to wrap around your hand. So easy to put your own individual mark on just by changing the colours. Would look wonderful in gradients of one colour for an ombre effect or knit your own beautiful rainbow. Lovely way of using up all those precious oddments you can’t bear to throw away…..

Materials:
Sample made using less than 200g/600m/656 yards of Premium Luxury Linen by ice Yarns…70% linen/30% viscose. Used double stranded throughout. This yarn doesn’t show in the Ravelry list so please note that yardage is therefore guestimated for other yarns.
(Any strong Linen/hemp based yarn can be substituted just do a quick gauge check to ensure you are using the correct number of strands…for example, if you chose a DK weight like Plymouth Yarn Linen Concerto, only one strand would be needed and therefore the stated yardage of the pictured sample would be halved.).
Contrast colours in single strands of DK/Light Worsted Weight yarn. (Oddments of various makes used.)
4.00mm circular needles.
Large eyed needle for weaving in ends.

Finished Size/Gauge:
Depth of bag: 12 inches/30.5cms
Width of bag: 15 inches/38cms
Length of strap: 20 inches/51cms
Width of strap at narrowest point: 4 inches/10cms (It will ‘roll’ naturally)
Approx 20sts x 26 rows = 4 inches square over stocking stitch (every row knit in the round)

Method:
Sweet Candy is worked upwards from the base in one piece; it is cast on using the crochet chain cast on method. Once the base is made, stitches are picked up along the short edges and from the crocheted cast on chain. The bag is then worked, seamlessly in rounds until the strap, when the stitches are divided for each side and then completed in rows.. A small number of stitches are cast off for the sides and finally the centre of the strap is grafted or seamed together. The ends need to then be woven in…the only sewing required.
