Swell - a slow, regular movement of the sea in rolling waves that do not break.
The Coast Salish Women of the Pacific North West Coast learned to knit from the immigrants who settled in the region. They adapted the techniques they learned to suit their own lifestyle and culture and used the materials that were available to them. They washed, carded and spun wool then knit bulky sweaters that have been highly prized and admired by everyone who appreciates the creative beauty of their work.

Note about the yarn and gauge: This yarn is knit very snuggly. The gauge on the ball band is 14 – 16 sts per 4” (10 cm) on a 5.50 to 6.00 mm needle. If you choose to substitute a yarn you may want to use a yarn that is heavier than an aran weight yarn to have the same effect. The skeins of Eco Wool are 250 grams and 437 metres so you will have lots left over for other projects or for several hats. We chose to use this yarn as it is soft, yet strong and is available in the natural shades of wool making is a good fit for Salish inspired knitting.
