This hat pattern features 4 bacteria swimming around the hat.

This would be a perfect hat for your favorite microbiologist.

This hat represents any peritrichous flagellated bacteria that are swimming. For you non-microbiologists, the previous sentence means that the bacteria have flagella (long structures that can be rotated to propel the bacterium) all over the cell and when they are swimming, the flagella propel the cell forward as shown in this hat. A few examples of these bacteria are E. coli,Salmonella, and Bacillus subtilis.

If you are making this hat, make sure to check your gauge! I have a very loose knitting style, so if you are a normal to tight knitter, you may have to go up several needle sizes.
