One part of a fast and easy two piece set, this pattern is completely reversible- the outside is identical to the inside. It uses just knit and purl stitches, but every 6 rows there is a cable crossing to liven it up.

The stitch pattern is both charted and written so that you can use whichever method is easier for you.The crown decreases are strictly written, and worked in pattern. Rows with a * in the chart correspond to rows with a * in the written directions.

The pink hat shown is worked with the yarn held double, the blue hat shown in the pattern is held singly. If you have 200 grams of yarn to work with, you have plenty to make both pieces of the set. I recommend starting with the hat first so you can use the leftover yarn to deepen the cowl.

If you need a larger or smaller hat, you can shift needle sizes up or down to slightly increase or decrease the size. Another possibility is adding or subtracting one stitch to each section between the cables, but this will shift the size by 3.5”, and require altering both the ribbing and the crown decreases.
