The Sylvie Wrap Cardigan is a sweet, belted wrap cardigan for children that can be made into three sizes,
Small (2T/3T), Medium (4T-6), and Large (7/8).

Skill Level
Intermediate: required skills include two special stitches (Tunisian simple stitch and puff), working from top down, working in rows, working
in the round, increasing, decreasing, and very minor seaming (sleeve cuffs and sewing belt loops to
garment). - Pattern includes tutorial on how to complete the stitches, including photos.

Required Materials:

  • Approximately: 1,010 yards for Small, 1,420 yards for Medium, and 1,655 yards for Large of Light (3) weight yarn.

A chainette yarn is highly recommended for this pattern because the chain and hollow core
construction increase the weight of the yarn without increasing the heft of the fabric. If a denser
Light (3) weight yarn is chosen, you may not be able to achieve the specified gauge.

This pattern was designed specifically for Katia Yoga chainette yarn; however, if you are unable to obtain
Katia Yoga chainette yarn in your country, or would like to substitute a different yarn, a wonderful
substitute is Drops Sky chainette yarn.

Child Medium - bust: 26 | length (shoulder to hem): 20
Child Large - bust: 28 | length (shoulder to hem): 22

The cardigan is designed with approximately 2” to 4” of positive ease at the bust for a classic fit; however,
the open wrap front design provides a very forgiving fit, allowing the child to wear the cardigan through
many seasons.

To determine which size to make, measure the child around the bust and choose the size
within the range of the Standard Child Size Reference Chart above. If the child is in between sizes, you
may wish to size up for a roomier fit, or down for a more tailored fit.

The cardigan features full-length sleeves. The length of the sleeves can easily be shortened or lengthened by omitting or adding desired number of rounds when creating the sleeves, as described in these instructions. The sleeve cuff looks great laid flat or folded over.

The hem of the cardigan is designed to hit below the rear to mid-thigh; the length can also easily be
shortened or lengthened by omitting or adding desired number of rows, as described in these instructions.
