This tarantula is about 12” across, so the size of the largest tarantula known.

It’s a bit tricky to knit. Advanced intermediate or experienced knitters should have fun with it, but less experienced knitted will find it difficult, and possibly frustrating.

It includes knitting in the round on small numbers of stitches, lots of picking up stitches, and knitting together stitches from different needles. Other techniques include wrap & turn, Icord, 3 needle bind off. There is an extensive photo tutorial included.

Fingering weight yarn is used, and one set of 5 double point needles. You may use any weight yarn, so long as you use a needle size to give a tight weave so that the stuffing does not show through. If you use a heavier weight yarn the final size (now about 12”/30cm across), will be quite a bit bigger and you will need more yarn.
The sample is knitted with Knit Picks Hawthorne fingering (80% Wool, 20% Nylon)
