These mitts mix a traditional stranded pattern with a Latvian-style lace & braid cuff. Want them unisex? instead of the lace cuff, substitute a ribbed top & bottom cuff.

Stranded Stockinette stitch gauge is the most important gauge for this mitt.

My garter stitch gauge and non-stranded stockinette stitch gauge is much larger (fewer stitches per inch) than my stranded stockinette gauge. If yours doesn’t vary as much, you may not need to change to smaller needles when working the top cuff.

Stitch gauge is more critical than row gauge.

A loose cast on is necessary. More critical, perhaps, than using a larger needle is consciously spacing the cast on stitches about 2mm apart. This ensures the scallops will lay flat.
