The lace pattern in this shrug is entirely reversible: one side of the motif shows a flame (for Katherine in Taming of the Shrew), while the other side depicts a leaf (for her sister, Bianca). While the Flaming Kate model was worked in a worsted-weight yarn, this same gauge can also be achieved with lace or sock weight yarn, giving you a garment with a lighter, airier feel. This is generally considered “cheating” on a pattern, but in this case it does, indeed, create the kinder, gentler, more open look we might associate with Bianca.
