Pattern for an all-plastic tote knit from plastic yarn (“plarn”)!

  • The body’s two-color design utilizes simple mosaic knitting to create a striking grill pattern.
  • A strong, continuous braided handle supports the bag
  • Contrasting handle covers (also made from the bags!) make a smooth, comfortable surface for carrying.
  • Finished size as shown: about 12” x 12” x 6”

Perfect for the beach, this bag also makes a unique everyday shopping tote or handbag!

Sample shown was created from trash bags (10 large size and 10 large kitchen size), but recycled grocery bags can also be utilized.

Includes complete instructions for how to create the plastic handle covers from the plastic bags (fusing). Additional supply for making handle covers is parchment paper.

Note: The suggested plarn method is “continuous” - no looping of strips. A large trash bag will make about 18 yards of 3” wide continuous plarn and a large kitchen bag makes about 13 yards. Continuous plarn takes about 5 minutes per bag to make…very easy to create!
