These sassy legwarmers are a must for fall and winter wear. Keep your legs cozy when you wear your favorite dress, or add an extra layer of warmth under pants on those bitter cold days.

These legwarmers are worked in the round from one end of the tube to the other with ribbing at each end. The Bramble Stitch pattern is extremely stretchy, so no shaping is needed to make the legwarmers fit even the curviest calves.

Yarn: 325{385, 475} yards of DK weight yarn. Sample shown in Rowan Purelife British Sheep Breeds DK (100% Undyed British Wool, 131 yds per 100gm skein) in ‘Brown B.F.L.’; 13 wpi

Needles: Set of 5 double points in both 3.75mm (US 5) and 4.5mm (US 7) or sizes needed to obtain gauge.

Finished Size: To fit 12{14, 17} inch (30.5{35.5, 43.25}cm) calf circumference (see notes) with up to 4 inches of negative ease. Length: 23 inches (58.5cm) from cast-on edge to bound-off edge, unstretched.

Gauge: 24 stitches and 24 rounds per 4 inches (10cm) square in bramble stitch, unstretched.

Notions: Tapestry needle to weave in ends, stitch marker to denote beginning of round.

Sizing on these legwarmers is meant to be snug. To fit a 12-inch (30.5cm) circumference calf (measured at the widest point), the finished legwarmer will be 8 inches (20cm). This negative ease will allow the Bramble Stitch pattern to open up and show off to its best advantage. The greater the circumference the tube has to stretch over, the more length will be taken up in the process. If you can try them on as you make them, you’ll get a much better idea of how long you need to make the tube.

These legwarmers were knit long enough to fit over the knee and up the thigh. If you wish a shorter legwarmer, simply work fewer repeats of Rnds 22-25.

Yardage estimates are given for the pattern as written. If you are varying the length, the yardage will vary.

The cast-on should be done over two needles held together as shown in the tutorial video at http://youtu.be/IhQaIckH5H0. Once all the stitches have been cast on, remove the extra needle and join in the round as normal.

This piece is knit in the round, all rows are right side rows.

A tutorial video for the stretchy sewn bind-off can be found at http://youtu.be/nzVtNtxwcnE.

Stitches Used:knit, purl, k3tog, purl knit and purl into the same stitch.
