My sister, Tanya, and I do not live near each other anymore, but we are closer now than as children. The gaps in the pattern are for the physical distance and the texture bits are for the chatting and time we get to regularly spend with each other virtually and also for the more regular visits we have. Even if those visits are usually about 18 months apart. So these cuff-down socks start with a twisted rib (sisters lives are twisted together, right?) and then there is the garter stitch patterning to give a bit of interest and texture just like our lives have had and they are worked in mirror images of each other.

Tanya also bought me this hot pink sock yarn the last time we were together so I wanted to make us each a pair of (almost) matching socks. The skeins had a bit less than generic sock yarns so I used contrast yarns for the heels, cuffs and toes. But the socks will look just as great in one yarn.
