Monty is short for the Montadale breed of sheep who provided the wool for Solitude Wool’s Montadale yarn. This is a woolen spun yarn that is very light weight.
Almost any yarn will do that gives you gauge, however if the yarn is heavier or non-woolen spun you will get a slouchier hat. Either look is fine for this pattern. It is simply a matter of preference.
