The 2014 Olympics in Sochi are nearly upon us, and all of us here at Jimmy Beans Wool are eagerly anticipating the opening ceremonies! We’re so excited, in fact, that we thought it would be really neat if we could get knitters and crocheters from across the country to come together and make as many red, white and blue hats as possible to warm the heads of our winter sports athletes and their families! Before the torch lighting ceremony commences in February, we invite you to join us to make a hat (or two!) to show your support for our Sochi-bound athletes. We are collecting these hats (by Januray 2nd) and working with our connections at the USSA to have them delivered to as many athletes Sochi-bound as possible!

Want to join us in our hat drive? Find out about how to get involved, ideas for crochet patterns, and more on the Jimmy Beans Wool Blog! Hats are due to us by January 2nd.

Each hat kit contains 3 balls of Schachenmayer original Boston yarn in the quintessential patriotic trio of Red, White and Blue in either a Patriotic Brights option (shown) or Americana (a more toned down option) and The Variegated Hat design straight of our latest book, Stitch Mountain.

Please note that we’ve re-imagined this pattern in the three-color stripes shown here. We just divided the total length of the hat by 3 (10”/3) and knit each section for that length. You can stripe your hat however you want--be creative! You are knitters, after all! :)

If you would prefer a crochet version of this pattern, please head over to the Loops website to order one of their Mt. Olympus hat crochet kits that they create to help us out with the campaign!

Lastly, purchasing a kit is not required in order to participate in the hat drive. Please feel free to send us any Red, White, and Blue hat that you make and we’ll make sure it gets to an athlete. We hope you’ll join us in showing your support of Team USA!
