手甲 | tekkō : Japanese for (n) hand guard from traditional Japanese Samurai Armour circa 16th Century.
Cosy handwarmers and armwarmers designed with reverse stocking stitch to provide a monolithic dimension to the knitted fabric, with stocking stitch stripes and vertical expressed seam edge provide detail and contrast to the assymmetric short-row shaping across the fingers of the hand.
These are the perfect one skein project using Brooklyn Tweed’s Sheleter yarn. Enjoy!
Notes:
- Tekkō Handwarmers, shown in Brooklyn Tweed Shelter Soot (grey), have thumbhole; Tekkō Armwarmers, shown in Shibui Heichi Colour Solar (yellow) have NO thumbhole.
- The Shibui Heichi version are knit in silk and therefore a ‘decorative accessory’ rather than a ‘warm accessory’!
- Pattern provides detailed instructions, including a photographic tutorial for the Expressed Seamless Edge Pattern, many photos and schematics.
- The hand warmers are seamless but worked back and forth “in the round” on circular needles to create the expressed edge along the seam line.
Size shown on model: L (8in/20.5cm palm/hand circumference).
