During World War I (1914–1918), knitters spent most of their free moments working on socks, hats, sweaters, and other soldier’s comforts, but they also would make items for family members at home. This sweet baby bib project is a perfect example of an item for home use. I adapted a pattern in Fancy and Practical Knitting, published by The Butterick Publishing Company, London and New York, in 1902. The pattern is among the seventy-four patterns for the knitted and crocheted articles used in the movie included in Centenary Stitches: Telling the Story of One WWI Family through Vintage Knitting and Crochet (Flotta, Orkney, England: Northern Lace Press, 2014).
