Telos merges symbols and techniques from Viking culture and British gansey knitting traditions. This pattern gives you the opportunity to learn some new techniques or simply enjoy traditional techniques in a new combination. Knit in the round from the bottom up with the option of using a traditional gansey Channel Island cast on, the lower hat section is a combination of garter, ribs and welts. The middle section consists of the main cable motif, then two options for a finished crown.

Pattern is both written and charted.
This pattern has been tech edited and test knitted.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Gauge: 24 sts & 33 rows = 4” in Welts and 4x4 Knit/Garter Rib
(this gives same gauge as garter, welts and ribs knit in-the-round).
Note About Gauge: Over the years as a continental knitter, I have learned to intentionally tighten up the space between my knits and purls. Therefor, please, check your gauge, go down needle size if you know you tend to be an average or loose tension knitter. This was confirmed by the test knitter. Also, be aware that yarn (if different) and material of needles you use can affect gauge.

Size Information, after water immersion blocking:
Option 1: Garter Crown: 20” finished circumference, depth 8.5” .
Option 2: 1x1 Ribbed Crown: 20” finished circumference 20”, depth 8.25”.

You can adjust the size of the hat by adjusting gauge: go down one or more needle size for a smaller hat, or go up one or more needle size for a larger fit.

Materials:
Seven Sisters Arts, Zenith.
100% Blue Faced Leicester Wool, 3-ply, sport weight, 252 yds, 4 oz/114 gm, one skein.
Colors in photographs: Sargasso (teal) & Copper (photos do not represent true color).
In suggested gauge, used 105 gm out of 114 gm for gauge swatch and hat.

About Seven Sisters Arts, yarn Zenith & Bue Faced Leicester Wool: this yarn has a particularly nice twist allowing for good stitch definition. It is a relatively soft, squishy and warm wool that has a mild halo. In my opinion, it has the moves of a fine, more sophisticated wool yet a hint of rustic in its sturdy temperament.
