This pattern includes directions for a close to the neck, rolled edge, very simple cowl, originally knit in Noro Iro yarn. It also includes directions on how to customize the cowl to ANY yarn you choose, from fingering to super bulky weight, based on your stitch gauge, and how big around you want the cowl - close to the neck or able to double or even triple around your neck! You choose! Just a little simple math.

Some pattern notes:
In terms of yardage, I usually suggest around 100 grams of yarn for a close to the neck cowl, and about 200 grams of yarn for a longer cowl, regardless of the yarn you choose. Yardage needed will vary depending on how long and how tall you knit your cowl, but it’s a good rule of thumb.

When using a fingering weight yarn, I would suggest using a size 3-5 US needle (unless you really want to knit your cowl on size 1 or 2!). Otherwise you can use the needle suggested on the ball band for your yarn (or size needed to get the suggested ball band gauge.)

I like the rolled edge because of the way the cowl slouches down comfortably, but if you prefer, put an edging at the top and bottom - garter in the round, seed stitch, a little ribbing - Make it your own! The possibilities are endless!
