The 16th C. Hipster Hat is the third hat design in the pentaradial series! It’s my favorite of the group now, with a dense textured garter stitch set off by stockinette lines. You’ll find a star pattern developing at the crown of this one, too--choose a dk-to-worsted handspun or a colorful commercial yarn to enhance this pattern further!

This is a roomy tam-style hat, with volume and slouch rising from a more fitted headband.

The pattern itself is presented as written instructions, divided neatly into three sections. There’s also a basic schematic, so you can check your work against the flat measurements as you go to help insure a good fit.

This hat looks very different depending on the yarn you use--cheery handspun in bright colors highlights the crown shaping; a murky green, velvety-soft yarn will appeal to your inner 16th century hipster.

Gauge is 18 sts and 26 rows in stockinette. Please be sure to check your gauge.

Materials:
-about 140-150 yards of dk to worsted weight yarn
-knitting needles: a 16” circular and one set of DPNS in US8-9/5mm-5.5mm, or size to get gauge
-tapestry needle
-stitch markers, to keep track of the beginning of your round

Intermediate knitting skills are a plus for this hat! The pattern isn’t too complicated, but it involves seamless knitting in the round, intermediate increases and decreases, and the use of DPNS.

Here are the 16th c. hipsters who inspired the final title for this knit.
