The hard materials used in architecture are interpreted here as lace: columns, balustrades and arches float and flow from section to section. Rows of a garter stitch belt course give the fabric structure.

Started at the tip and worked to the base, the finished shape is an asymmetrical triangle.

The size of the shawl is easily changed by adding or subtracting the number of times you repeat a section.

The sample shown is worked in a gradient yarn; you can definitely work it one color, or use a different color for each section.

You will need 656 yards of fingering weight yarn to make a shawl the size shown (wingspan of 56” and back length of 25.5” after blocking).

A US size 5 (3.75mm) 32” circular needle is required. Exact gauge is not crucial. Use a needle size that gives you a fabric that you like, but be aware that a change in gauge can affect the amount of yarn used and the size of the finished shawl.
