This pattern is written for ALL knitters--not just those who know the Swing-Knitting™ technique.

For those who do know the technique, the formula is 10/2,2,3,3; however, there are more short-row turns near the crown of the head to create a rounded, tapered hat.

The Double Stitch is used instead of a wrap and turn. All three yarns remain connected. Looking at the front of the fabric, they are brought up in the back of the right side to avoid cutting and weaving-in excessive ends after the fabric is finished.

When using the three the Schachenmayr yarns, (2) Boston and (1) Lova, there will be enough yarn left to make two hats---unless, of course, a pom pom and/or ear flaps with braided ties are attached. If making two hats, be sure to weigh the three yarns after making the first hat. Substitute the colors so that the color with the most yardage is exchanged for the color with the least yardage and vice versa.

Instructions include video references in the pattern for how to make a Double Stitch, a crocheted cast-on with a knitting needle, and a Kitchener stitch.

Sizing the hat can be achieved by going up or going down a needle size or two or using a worsted weight yarn. The crochet hook is used for the provisional cast-on.

The pink hat photos show the addition of a pom pom and Schachenmyr’s Lumio yarn--by removing two plies and knitting with one ply combined with the luminescent thread. See how the fibers glow from the flash of the camera?

Three hats were submitted to the 2014 Laramie County Fair in Cheyenne, WY. Blue Ribbon winners were Nancy Scribner and Connie Wise. A Superior Ribbon was awarded to Sherry Cram. Congratulations, ladies! Job well done.

VIEL SPASS!
