This beanie is a lovely simple and quick design, using a basic DC for most of the body and puff stitches spiralling around to give a bit of texture. Designed especially to be easy for beginners who might be ready to move up from the standard plain DC beanie.

This pattern uses chains, puff stitches, and DC with three options for the bottom band to suit from beginner to a more confident crocheter.
There is a description of how to do puff stitches in the pattern, and I recommend using youtube tutorials if you’re not sure about how to do it. I’ve used an extra loop in my puffs to give extra prominence, but you can do them the ‘normal’ way if you prefer.

Using 8ply/DK or even a Light Worsted yarn should give you a beanie to fit 3-5 year olds, but it’s easily adjustable via different weights of yarn or adding/subtracting the increase rows.
You will need approx 130-150m of yarn, for the yarns I used that ended up being 40-50grams.

This beanie is named after the Ceriths sea shell which has a spiral and bumps running down it :)
