The Die-hard Kick Bunny, a heavy duty catnip-filled kicker toy for your fiercest felines! Also makes fun stuffed animal for kids -- just leave out the catnip.

This pattern includes 8 pages of detailed instructions and photos, including ideas for customizing your Kick Bunny to fit your cat’s size and purrrsonality!

Skills used in this pattern: magic ring, single crochet, invisible increases and decreases, simple shaping, color change, back loop only, and basic sewing. All rounds are worked in continuous spirals.

The pattern also includes instructions for making the Kick Bunny’s body refillable by installing either a zipper or Velcro closure so you can refresh the catnip when it eventually loses potency. This means your Kick Bunny could last for many, many years!

100% cotton yarn is recommended. As written, the pattern uses well under 2 skeins of Lily Sugar n Cream (2.5oz size) for the main color, less if you use contrasting shades for the limbs.

NOTE: This listing is for the PDF CROCHET PATTERN ONLY, not the finished Kick Bunny.

MATERIALS

  • worsted weight (#4) 100% cotton yarn
  • contrasting yarn for eyes and face
  • size D (3.25mm) hook/hook that meets your gauge
  • stitch marker
  • yarn needle
  • scissors
  • polyester filling
  • pins
  • optional catnip, either loose or tied into nylon stocking segments
  • optional rattles, squeakers, etc.

For the refillable option only:

  • 3 inch (7.5cm) nylon zipper OR a 4 inch (10cm) length of 1 inch (2.5cm) wide hook and loop (Velcro) tape
  • a sewing needle
  • matching heavy duty sewing thread.

YARN
Sturdy cotton yarn holds up very well against even the fiercest cat’s teeth and claws. Choose a strong, natural yarn, keeping in mind that a toy stuffed with catnip cannot be laundered. I prefer Lily Sugar ‘n Cream yarn for its durability.

+++ Correction 5/30/20: There was a typo in the st count of the Refillable Body instructions. The st count for R7-9 is 36, not 38.
