The name is inspired by the Mendelssohn piece Op. 53, No. 2.

The hat pattern is knit in the round and includes a tassel. There is a chart for the fair isle pattern, and an explanation is included to explain how to create the knitted braid.

A tubular cast-on is recommended for the hat. This is not explained in the pattern, but because it is stretchy and appealing, it is a lovely technique to learn and apply.
