I love the history of the cloche hat, popular since the early 1900’s, these hats were constructed to sit slightly lower over the wearers field of vision to cause the wearers to tilt their heads back just a bit so they could look down their noses. A clever way to appear sophisticated during the roaring 20’s.

This asymmetrical hat was inspired by the fine hats worn on Downton Abbey and seen on actresses of the time like Greta Garbo and Josephine Baker. It’s a fast project and you can even bling it up with a pretty button.

It is crocheted in the round, in a spiral, omitting any chaining from round to round to avoid any seam or ladder effects. This hat will fit an average adult head size of 20 - 23 inches. This pattern is written in American crochet terms
