“The road is long/With many a winding turn…” So go the lyrics to The Hollies 1969 hit pop song, “He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother”. The Hollies Shawl is full of twists and turns that are meant to remind both the knitter and wearer of the unpredictability of life as well as the endurance needed to finish the race well. It is a crescent-shaped, fully reversible shawl knit from the top down in 2 coordinating or contrasting yarn colors using German Short Rows. The border is vertically-striped with Brioche Stitch. You will need 300 yards of yarn in 2 different colors for a total of 600 yards to knit this shawl. The pattern is written for sport weight yarn, but anything from fingering weight through dk weight will work. My finished shawl is slightly over 6 feet in length, and 11 inches wide at its center, deepest point. Complete written instructions, section row counts, and video help links are included in the pattern.
