The Iron Forest Cowl features a classic Shetland tree motif, framed only by narrow garter stitch edges, to not disturb the graphic look of the tree.

The cowl is worked in the round, purling every other round. In order to make perfect – and identical – edges, the cowl is worked from a provisional cast on. It is later removed, so both edges are bound off.

The size of the cowl is highly adaptable, and the stitch count determines the circumference of the cowl. You can make a shorter version to go once around the neck, or a longer one that can be passed twice around the neck and still drape nicely.

The cowl is shown in Midgaards Have Midsommer, a pure linen laceweight yarn. A linen cowl will make a perfect summer accessory - or work it in a wool yarn for other seasons.

About the name: The Iron Forest (Jernskoven in Danish) is a shadowy place in Norse mythology, where all the trees are made of iron. A giantess hides there, giving birth to wolves.
