Once upon a winter night, there was a little girl walking in the snowy streets. Her “long golden hair… curled so prettily about her neck” and “her tiny bare feet… were red and blue with the cold.”
The little girl was holding matches in her torn apron and was trying to sell them desperately. For she knew that she could not go home until she sold at least one…


MATERIALS
1. Thread:
a. DMC Baroque size 10, ecru – head, hands, legs, and matches
b. DMC Baroque size 10, white – apron
c. Aunt Lydia’s size 10, navy – dress
d. Aunt Lydia’s size 10, golden yellow - hair
e. Aunt Lydia’s size 10, grey - shawl
f. Aunt Lydia’s size 10, dark brown – basket and matches
g. DMC single strand floss (various colors) – fabric patches
h. Optional: Lizbeth 40 or DMC single strand floss – matchbox and matches
2. Hooks:
a. 1.5 mm hook (doll, outfit, and basket)
b. 1.00 mm hook (fabric patches and matchbox)

  1. Plastic eyes – 3 mm (optional; you can also use beads or sew them with thread)
  2. Prismacolor hard pastels (or other hard pastels, eyeshadow or blush works too) – red and blue
  3. Optional: wire
  4. Clear Tacky glue

ABBREVIATIONS:

MR – magic ring
Ch – chain
Sl st – slip stitch
Sc – single crochet
Hdc – half double crochet
Dc – double crochet
Inc – increase
Dec – decrease (invisible)
BLO – back loop only
FLO – front loop only


The finished doll is about 3 inches tall. Please note that the finished size depends on the materials you use as well as your tension.
