First warm up pattern for Sock Madness 14. This pattern will initially be available only to members of the Sock Madness group and will be released later this year.

The pattern starts at the toe, is worked up through the foot and leg, then in one continuous piece, worked down through the second leg and foot, to end at the second toe forming a closed tube. This unnecessarily complicated way of making a sock does at least avoid the dreaded Second Sock Syndrome. You add afterthought heels to your tube, and finally separate the two socks and cast off.

There are two versions of the pattern included - one with detailed written instructions, and a simple version which can be printed out on just one sheet of paper. Pick one or cross-reference both, for practice in learning to read different styles of pattern writing.

The pattern is for a knit/purl textured fabric. HOWEVER, some people have chosen to do them in stranded colourwork, using the same chart, which looks fabulous. You will need to work out what to do on the sole of the foot. Your options are: stripes, checkerboard, ladder-back jacquard OR simply follow the leg instructions all the way through the foot as well. Inserting the afterthought heel is a lot scarier if you have done the colourwork version and I would recommend using scrap yarn to knit in the heel stitches, rather than cutting into your colourwork.
