The Perfectionist Trap is a triangle shawl knit from corner to side edge, and designed for knitters of any skill level! The edges are neat and tidy, and overall the project looks more challenging than it is! It’s not a perfect triangle, but that’s okay!

“The perfectionist trap” is a term for getting stuck in a loop of requiring or expecting perfectionism from ourselves and others and allowing that rigidity to halt progress or growth. Avoiding trying new things because we know we can’t be great at them right away, procrastinating on small steps to avoid failing on a bigger level, fearing that our best won’t be good enough - these are things everyone can relate to, but when those fears become paralyzing, it leads to inaction, and we get stuck in the perfectionist trap.

This DK weight shawl has a 54” wingspan, but can be easily lengthened or shortened by increasing or decreasing the number of pattern repeats (please note this will also change required yardage).

Additionally, gauge and weight are not significant for this pattern. I would recommend using a yarn and needle size to give you a drapey yet structured shawl.

If you want to use two skeins that are 231 yds each, replace the i-cord bind off with a standard or stretchy bind off. If you’re a loose knitter, consider also going down a needle size for the entire project.

This pattern includes written instructions, and has been fully test knitted and professionally tech edited! Small mistakes may still have slipped by us, so if you have any trouble or spot any problems please email me as soon as possible at KaceyKnits@gmail.com and include the pattern name in the subject!
