This clever little pattern pretends to be a cabled scarf, but no cable needle was used. On close inspection, you will see it is completely reversible, with cables on both the RS and WS. Even more amazing, the pattern stitch can metamorphose to look like a lace stitch with just a little blocking.

This pattern was originally written for DK weight yarn, I have updated the pattern so it is more easily adapted to different yarns. The samples show in the photos are: 1) Glenhaven Sock (sport weight), 2) Shibui Cima and Silk Cloud held together (DK) 3) Silk Jewels - DK weight

Skill Level: Intermediate. The pattern stitch may take a bit of practice at first, but once you get the hang of it, it is fun and easy to memorize. There is a link to a video tutorial on how to work the pattern stitch. Lace point needles may help you manipulate the stitches.

Errata: The original pattern was a bit confusing in the way as to the number of repeats. It was not clear that there are supposed to be an odd number of “cables” for symmetry. I have re-written the pattern for a cast on of 45 stitches.
