This fun scarf is reminiscent of the fringed vests of the 1960’s. The knitted-in Latvian fringe at the edges of the scarf is an unusual technique and not something for a beginner, but with a little help from the step by step photo tutorial, it is easily mastered and knits up quickly once you get past the fringe.

Yarn and Gauge The pattern is suitable for any smooth wool yarn in either fingering, DK, or worsted weight. Gauge is not important because the single stitch repeat allows you to adjust width by casting on more or fewer stitches, and you can simply knit to the length you desire. Be aware, however, that the fringe will use more yarn than is typical for a scarf of similar size. An approximate yardage recommendations is that you will need 350 - 400 yards, depending on your yarn choice and dimensions you decide to knit. The scarf is knitted in 2 halves from the bottom up and joined at the back of the neck with 3 needle bind off. To make sure you have enough yarn, divide your yarn in half before you start and use no more than one half for each piece.

The worsted weight sample (shown on the pattern) used about 390 yards of 3 Irish Girls Springvale Worsted (almost all of 2 205 yd skeins) for a 6 foot long by 8 inch wide scarf. The fingering weight sample used about 370 yards for a scarf that measured 5 and 1/2 feet long by 6 inches wide (using less than 1 skein of 3 Irish Girls Adorn Luxe, 430 yds per skein).

Use needles that are appropriate to the weight of your yarn.
Size 2 mm for fingering weight,
Size 3 mm for DK weight
Size 4 mm for Worsted weight.
3 needles of the same size are needed due to the 3 needle bind off.
